Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to protect and support the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), historic legislation passed in 2021.
This Act has been a remarkable success for our economy and climate, but it’s under attack, and the already appropriated dollars for many programs has been frozen or attempts are bing made to claw back money already allocated under the law.
Since its passage, it has spurred the creation of over 334,000 new clean energy jobs across the country. These jobs exceed national wage averages by up to 19%, providing good-paying opportunities for workers. The IRA has also made renewable energy and energy efficiency upgrades more accessible and affordable for households through tax credits and rebates.
This legislation puts us on track to reduce climate pollution by 40% from 2005 levels by 2030, a crucial step in preserving a livable world.
I’m urging you to use all the legal measures at your command in Congress to prevent the repeal. We must act to protect the economic and environmental benefits this transformative law is delivering for communities nationwide. The IRA is a historic investment in our future that Congress cannot afford to undo. I look forward to your response.
