Stop Politically Motivated Prosecutions

The President who has said he hates his opponents is now openly asking the Department of Justice to prosecute his political enemies — including cases where prior investigators found no basis for charges. This is an outrageous abuse of power and a direct threat to the rule of law. As you negotiate the budget, I urge you to use the leverage you have and include riders that make clear: 1 No federal funds may be used for politically motivated prosecutions. DOJ must certify that prosecutions rest on facts and law, not White House direction. 2 No funds may be used to create or operate new “special prosecutors” or task forces unless confirmed by the Senate or overseen by an independent Inspector General. These steps are the quickest way for Congress to block sham investigations and protect our democracy. Please act before September 30.
