I know you hear from out-of-touch Washington special interest groups every day who want to confuse the national debt with Social Security. Make no mistake: these groups want to cut Social Security. I respectfully ask you to ignore their calls to cut Social Security and instead listen to real folks back home who depend on Social Security.
We pay into Social Security based on a promise that we will get the money we’ve earned when we retire. It wouldn’t be right for Congress to break this promise by cutting Social Security to reduce the deficit — especially when Social Security is not a driver of America’s debt.
Prices are soaring for everyday essentials like groceries, housing, utilities, and health care. Don’t add to the stress of Americans 50-plus who count on Social Security now more than ever by considering ideas to cut Social Security from Washington special interests that are out of touch with everyday Americans, like me. Instead, listen to your constituents.
I ask that you oppose any cuts to Social Security to reduce the nation’s debt and work to protect and strengthen it for the 70 million Americans who count on it, and the millions more who will.
