An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (Pa. only)
Pass HB1862 To Keep DUI Offenders Working With Interlock Licenses
I support HB1862 and I want my representative to vote yes. Right now, a DUI conviction in Pennsylvania can mean a full license suspension that costs people their jobs. If you can't drive, you can't get to work, and if you can't work, you can't pay rent or support your kids. This bill fixes that by creating a restricted ignition interlock license, so offenders can still drive to work, school, or treatment while the interlock device makes sure they can't start the car after drinking.
That's accountability that doesn't destroy a family's income. Ignition interlock devices already have a track record of preventing repeat drunk driving, and pairing one with a restricted license means public safety and a person's livelihood aren't in conflict. HB1862 has already moved through the House with support from both parties, which tells me this isn't a partisan idea, it's just practical.
I'm asking my legislators to get this passed and to the governor's desk. Losing a license shouldn't mean losing a job on top of a conviction.
