Call on Trump to Repeal Executive Order Stripping Feds of Collective Bargaining Rights
I am writing to express my deep outrage and concern regarding the recent executive order entitled Exclusions from Federal Labor-Management Relations Programs, which I believe constitutes an overreach of the authority granted under the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978 (CSRA). This executive order undermines the rights of federal employees and is an affront to the hardworking public servants who dedicate themselves to serving the American people.
As you, along with your colleagues, have rightly pointed out, there is no evidence to suggest that the collective bargaining agreements currently in place at these agencies have jeopardized our nation's security in any way. In fact, these agreements have historically provided essential protections for employees, enabling them to perform their duties without fear of retaliation or political interference. It is through these protections that federal workers are able to blow the whistle on fraud, waste, and abuse within the government, ensuring that our taxpayer dollars are used responsibly and effectively.
I strongly agree with your position that the removal of union rights from federal workers not only erodes workplace morale and safety but also damages the overall effectiveness of our government. Collective bargaining benefits both the public and the employees. By helping to resolve workplace conflicts early, it prevents costly and disruptive litigation, while improving retention and the overall well-being of the workforce.
Additionally, many of these employees are veterans, a group that has already given so much to our country. Stripping away their rights to collective bargaining is not just an attack on their livelihoods but also a disservice to the American people. The consequences of this order will be far-reaching, resulting in diminished services, reduced worker effectiveness, and weakened morale within the federal workforce.
I commend you and your colleagues for standing up for federal workers and their fundamental union rights. Your leadership is crucial in protecting the integrity of the Civil Service System, which has served our nation well for decades. I urge you to continue advocating for policies that ensure federal employees can work without fear of political interference and that they are afforded the protections they deserve.
Thank you for your tireless work on behalf of federal employees and the American public. I look forward to seeing the continued defense of workers' rights in the face of this executive order.
