The government should not have ownership of TikTok

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding any potential government ownership or partial control of TikTok or any other social media platform. As your constituent, I believe that if the U.S. government were to hold even a small percentage of a social media company, it would set a dangerous precedent, effectively creating a form of state-run media. This would not only threaten the fundamental principles of free speech but could also undermine public trust in the neutrality of digital platforms.
Social media has become a primary space for public discourse, political debate, and the free exchange of ideas. If the government were to own a stake in TikTok or any similar platform, it could create a conflict of interest in content moderation policies, potentially leading to censorship or undue influence over what information is amplified or suppressed. Even the perception of government involvement in media ownership could erode public confidence in these platforms as spaces for open and unbiased communication.
I urge you to stand against any proposal that would allow the U.S. government to own or control social media platforms. Instead, I support policies that ensure these platforms remain independent while being held accountable for fair and transparent content moderation practices.
Please let me know your position on this issue and what steps you are taking to prevent government ownership of social media companies. Thank you for your time and for your service to our state. I appreciate your attention to this important matter and look forward to your response.
