Protect My Rights in Life and in Death — Defend Bodily Autonomy

I’m writing to you with deep concern about what is happening in Georgia, where Adriana Smith—a brain-dead pregnant woman—is being kept on life support against her family’s will due to confusion over the state’s abortion ban.
This is state violence. It is reproductive coercion extended beyond life itself. Even after clarification by the Georgia Attorney General, the hospital continues to override her family’s wishes. This could happen anywhere—including in our state—if we do not have clear protections in place.
I want to make sure this never happens here. I vote accordingly.
I urge you to:
- Propose or support legislation in our state guaranteeing posthumous bodily autonomy.
- Ensure families—not the state—retain the right to make end-of-life decisions.
- Push back against anti-abortion laws that create vague, dangerous conditions like this one.
Our rights do not vanish because we are pregnant. And our bodies are not tools of the state. Please also forward this to the House Judiciary Committee and the Senate HELP Committee at the federal level—because this issue spans jurisdictions and must be addressed broadly.
I will be watching how you act - and voting accordingly.
