Save Social Security

I urge you to take action now to strengthen Social Security's finances well before the projected funding shortfall in the early 2030s. Americans who have paid into the system throughout their working lives deserve confidence that the benefits they have earned will be there in full. I encourage you to consider solutions that improve the program's long-term funding without raising the retirement age or reducing earned benefits. Potential approaches include gradually increasing or eliminating the payroll tax cap so higher earnings are subject to Social Security taxes, dedicating additional revenue sources to the trust fund, modestly increasing the payroll tax rate over time, and strengthening efforts to reduce fraud and improve administrative efficiency. Please work across party lines to enact reforms soon. Delaying action will only make future solutions more difficult and disruptive. Social Security is a promise to generations of Americans, and Congress should protect that promise by securing the program's finances now—not waiting until a crisis forces rushed decisions.
