Opposition to 2027 Budget Resolution, Protecting Our Community’s Economic Future

13 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I am writing as a constituent and consistent voter to express my firm opposition to the House Republican Budget Resolution for Fiscal Year 2027 and the specific appropriations bills currently advancing through the House. As we look toward the future of our economy, this resolution fails the test of both fiscal responsibility and basic fairness. I am particularly concerned by the House Appropriations Committee’s recent 34-28 vote to slash nearly $1.4 billion from IRS enforcement. Proposing $7 trillion in tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy while simultaneously making it easier for them to avoid paying what they already owe is an unsustainable and unjust path forward. I am urging you to reconsider the following priorities: - Corporate Responsibility vs. Enforcement Gaps: Large corporations and the ultra-wealthy achieve record success by utilizing American infrastructure—our roads, power grids, and educated workforce. It is hypocritical to provide them with permanent tax giveaways while dismantling the very agencies tasked with ensuring they pay their fair share to maintain these public resources. - The Deficit Crisis: With the CBO now projecting a $1.9 trillion deficit for 2026, I find it deeply irresponsible to blow a hole in the national debt to fund tax breaks that do not benefit the working class. True fiscal responsibility requires a balanced approach, not one-sided giveaways. - Dismantling the Safety Net: I am outraged by the FY2027 Agriculture appropriations bill introduced this week, which proposes cutting $6.2 billion from SNAP and reducing WIC benefits for millions of women and children. After the hardships caused by price increases due to the war in Iran, our community cannot afford further destabilization of our food security and healthcare systems. - Economic Opportunity: Drastic proposed cuts to education—including the path toward eliminating the Department of Education and gutting Federal Work-Study—dismantle the ladder of opportunity for the next generation of workers. I urge you to reject this resolution and the accompanying reconciliation bills that prioritize corporate interests over the survival and success of the American people. I am looking for leadership that balances the books by ensuring everyone pays their fair share, rather than punishing the working class to subsidize the top 1%. I will be following the upcoming floor votes on these appropriations bills very closely.
