An open letter to the U.S. Congress

HR 201 is cruelty disguised as merit

6 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

This legislation sets up a misguided performance pay system for federal employees. Tying workers' salaries solely to ever-changing metrics is demoralizing and risks driving talented public servants away. Employees meeting expectations should still receive regular pay adjustments - freezing their pay is unjust. And threatening real pay cuts for any shortfalls is punitive overreach that ignores how job roles evolve over time. Federal pay should maintain a base level of security and stability while using bonuses and non-monetary incentives to recognize exceptional work. I urge you to reject this bill and instead pursue reforms that truly improve worker morale and the delivery of vital public services.
