An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Support and Pass the Right To Record Act

101 so far! Help us get to 250 signers!

Co-sponsor and fight to pass the Right To Record Act. Rep. Maxwell Frost and Sen. Richard Blumenthal have introduced a bill that does something simple and necessary: it protects citizens' First Amendment right to record federal agents in public and gives people a legal path to compensation when that right is violated. This isn't abstract. Sen. Blumenthal investigated dozens of cases over the past year where Americans were brutalized by federal agents, and in case after case, video footage was what corroborated the victims' testimony. Rep. Frost pointed to the murders of Alex Pretti and Renee Good as proof of what's at stake — without those recordings, the official narrative from law enforcement could have stood unchallenged. That's not accountability. That's a cover-up waiting to happen. The right to record public officials doing their jobs in public spaces is settled constitutional ground. This bill enforces it. Get behind it, push it through committee, and make sure it gets a vote.
