Reject discriminatory legislation against transgender student-athletes

The proposed legislation to ban transgender girls from participating in female school sports divisions is misguided and harmful. All students deserve the opportunity to experience the benefits of athletics and compete alongside their peers. Excluding transgender girls from female sports teams deprives them of this vital experience and sends a message that they are not valued members of the school community. This discriminatory policy fails to account for the complex reality of gender identity and would inflict severe emotional distress on transgender students who already face numerous challenges. Instead of fostering an inclusive environment, it promotes intolerance and marginalization of a vulnerable minority group. Research shows that allowing transgender athletes to compete in alignment with their gender identity does not provide an unfair competitive advantage. Every student should have the chance to develop their talents, build self-confidence, and forge meaningful connections through sports. Transgender girls are girls - they should be treated with dignity and respect, not banned from female teams. This legislation undermines core values of equality, compassion, and acceptance that schools should uphold. A more just approach is to craft policies based on current medical guidance that enable full participation for all student-athletes.
