The situation in Gaza is critical, with over 90% of its 2.2 million residents facing acute food insecurity. This crisis predates the recent conflict, with nearly 70% of Gazans relying on humanitarian aid for sustenance due to the ongoing blockade. Currently, only a fraction of necessary food is reaching Gaza, leading to prolonged periods of hunger for most residents. Particularly vulnerable groups include children, pregnant and lactating women, people with medical conditions, and older adults. The situation is so dire that even infants are at risk due to dwindling food supplies. It is imperative that the US government leverage its influence to ensure immediate and unrestricted access to food and other essential supplies in Gaza. The potential for a famine is real and immediate action is required to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.
