Under the guise of making lemonade out of lemons, our Governor Greg Abbott has called a special session to address flood issues and how to prevent them in the future. But they will also be trying to figure out how to redraw voting districts to further favor the election of Republicans.
We know much won’t be done about flood proactivity, excuse this issue has been tossed around like a hot potato for years. No one wants to fund what it would take. So they’ll just do what they usually do. Wait for the moment to pass. Memories to fade. And for a future tragedy du jour to grab the headlines.
Texas has been Republican ruled for decades. But on Wednesday, Abbot told state lawmakers to begin the redistricting process as he tries to position Republicans to maintain control of the House in 2026.
This directive has come straight from President Trump, who is currently urging states to find ways to create more Republican seats under the guise that the current maps are “unconstitutional.”
At least 120 people have been confirmed dead in Texas from flash flooding, and at least 170 are still missing . Or maybe more as I write this.
So while Republicans across the country chide Democrats, calling their legitimate questions around emergency response an attempt to “politicize” the situation, remember who’s responsible for cuts to weather monitoring across our state
The Republicans in DC. With enabling by Republicans in Texas.
So if anyone actually thinks they’ll do much of anything to help out vulnerable Texans, you haven’t been paying attention.
But they will definitely help out vulnerable Republicans.
When Ken Paxton beats John Cornyn in the Republican primary for Senator in 2026, they know Paxton won’t win in a general election.
But don’t worry, they’ll save him. The rest of us? Not so much.
