An open letter to State Legislatures (Ariz. only)

SB1003: Discriminatory Bathroom Bill

SB1003: Discriminatory Bathroom Bill This proposed legislation unjustly discriminates against transgender and non-binary individuals by prohibiting them from using bathrooms and changing facilities that align with their gender identity. Defining "sex" solely by one's genitalia and genetics at birth is an archaic and unscientific viewpoint that disregards the complexities of gender. Forcing people into bathrooms misaligned with their identity promotes harm, humiliation, and inadvertent outing. Moreover, allowing entities to be sued for violations creates a chilling effect that will deter institutions from making accommodations. I urge reconsideration of this bill as it perpetuates discrimination and undermines the dignity of our transgender community members. All people deserve to access facilities respectfully and safely, regardless of gender identity or expression.
