An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Stop Trump’s unconscionable usage of the Nazi playbook.

Trump claims he’s building mega detention centers for undocumented immigrants. This doesn’t make sense because if they’re going to serve any time, there should be time allotted for attorney-client meetings- but that’s not being allowed. There should also be time for due process. But that’s not allowed either. And if they’re being immediately deported, why would we need extra room to house them? Hmmm. Let’s consult the Nazi playbook, shall we? In the late 1930s, Adolf Hitler began building detainment centers. He claimed they were relocation camps for the Jews. Having gaslit the Jews as thieves and money mongers and comparable to rats, his followers believed these centers were necessary. However, he also sent the handicapped, the homosexuals, the mentally ill, and anyone who opposed his regime. Trump is building these centers for immigrants. He has already accused them of being rapists and murderers, thieves and comparable to animals. His followers believe these facilities are necessary, as well. However, Trump has already mocked the handicapped, manhandled women, silenced media and journalists, suppressed the free flow of information, denied immigrants due process or access to their lawyers, family, and friends. His buddy RFK, Jr. has described encampments for people who have mental illnesses, autism, anxiety, etc. Pam Bondi has expressed that she will personally prosecute anyone who opposes the regime- *ahem* - I mean, the administration. Kristi Noem has called for social media platforms to turn over the personal records of users who have denounced ICE. People say it’s inappropriate to compare what is happening in the United States of America to what happened in Germany nearly a century ago. However, the people who say that seem to believe that the holocaust simply started and ended with the labor and death camps. They fail to recognize that it started many years before- and it started just like this- media suppression, dehumanization of people, and asking neighbors to rat on their neighbors. This is no longer an inappropriate comparison. It is a direct comparison. We know what happens from here. The only difference is whether or not we are willing to cooperate with Hitler in 2026. Stand up, or stand down and let someone who is less afraid of the regime handle it.
