An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Restoring constitutional order through lawful, civil means

The large-scale deployment of military forces to assist with immigration enforcement in Los Angeles is concerning and risks escalating tensions rather than resolving them peacefully. Federal overreach by circumventing state authority appears to violate principles of local control and potentially even the Posse Comitatus Act restricting military involvement in domestic law enforcement. This situation demands de-escalation through lawful means that uphold democratic values and civil rights. Invoking further extremes like martial law would be an unacceptable assault on our democratic system of government. Will you stand by in the halls of Congress as Trump takes more power and strikes fear in citizens to protest peacefully, which the vast majority have done? Elected officials at all levels must firmly resist such affronts to constitutional order and work to resolve this civilly through proper legal channels while preventing further violence. The American people deserve leadership that protects liberty, not military oppression.
