The innovative practice of natural organic reduction, or human composting, is gaining traction in states like Washington, Colorado, and Oregon. This process transforms human remains into nutrient-rich soil over a period of 30 days, offering an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional burial or cremation. Seattle-based company Recompose has already converted 25 bodies into soil and has over 775 individuals registered for their services. Given the increasing demand for sustainable end-of-life options, it is crucial that North Carolina residents have access to this choice. Therefore, it is requested that a bill be drafted to legalize natural organic reduction in North Carolina. This would not only provide a greener option for death care but also allow individuals to contribute positively to the planet even after their demise.
