First of all, DO NOT tell me to talk to my local legislators. I already have, and they are NOT doing what’s best for our kids. That’s why I’m really angry that you want to get rid of the Department of Education. Doing this will only make things worse—especially for kids with special needs.
Let me be clear: states like ours will get hurt the most if the Department of Education goes away. Our state counts on federal money to help our schools, especially in small towns where there isn’t enough local tax money to keep schools running well. We’re already seeing problems like not enough teachers, broken down busses, and not enough resources. States like Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Connecticut do better because they have stronger local funding. The Department of Education helps make things fair by giving support where it’s needed most. Without it, our schools will face even more problems, and it’s our kids who will suffer.
The Department of Education makes sure every kid in America has a chance at a good education, no matter where they live. It protects students' rights and supports special education, including important programs like Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) under laws like the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Taking away these protections and resources won’t give us more freedom. It will create confusion, unfairness, and hurt our future.
We are not a monarchy. We are a democracy, and what voters think matters. People are paying attention, and we will remember who stood up for our kids' right to a good education—and who didn’t. Get in touch with your voters, or you will feel the hurt at the polls soon enough.
