An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Draft Local Voting Rights Legislation Modeled on Chicago's Fair Access to Democracy Ordinance

73 so far! Help us get to 100 signers!

Chicago just showed every city and state in this country exactly how to protect voters at the local level — and I want you to bring that same model here. The Reverend Jesse L. Jackson Sr. Fair Access to Democracy Ordinance passed Chicago's City Council with broad support, and there is no reason our district can't do the same. The ordinance does three concrete things: it criminalizes the doxxing of election workers, requires landlords to provide secure mailboxes so mail ballots actually reach voters, and creates an advisory council to monitor threats to polling place access. These are practical, enforceable protections that don't wait on Congress or the courts. With the Supreme Court having already gutted the 1965 Voting Rights Act and ongoing federal pressure to restrict mail voting, local action isn't optional — it's necessary. Chicago proved this can be done. Draft legislation for our district that mirrors these provisions. Voters here deserve the same protections, and you have the power to deliver them right now.
