Stop the tariff madness!

While punitive tariffs may be intended to curb trade deficits, alienating longstanding allies like Canada will likely have severe economic consequences that outweigh any perceived benefits. The recently announced 25% tariffs on vehicles and auto parts from Canada risk upending integrated supply chains and harming American automakers and workers. Rather than escalating protectionist measures, we should work cooperatively with allies to address areas of concern through dialogue and negotiate fair trade agreements that benefit all parties. Unilateral actions that disrupt decades of economic integration will inevitably lead to retaliatory measures, higher consumer costs, and damage relationships with key partners. A more prudent approach of principled negotiation serves America's strategic interests better than reckless economic brinkmanship.
