An open letter to the Vice President

Our Constitution Is Secular, Mr. Vice President. Your Job Is Too.

Three separate times over the past nine months, you have publicly redefined your government service as a religious mission rather than a constitutional one. - On May 17, 2026, at the "Rededicate 250" rally on the National Mall, you quoted Charlie Kirk approvingly and extended his framing, stating: "All law reflects a morality. Neither law nor morality appears in a vacuum, but ultimately come from religion. And the morality and religion that formed the American consciousness were decidedly Christian, founded upon the principles and the divinity of Jesus Christ." - On December 21, 2025, at Turning Point USA's AmericaFest, you told the crowd: "The only thing that has truly served as an anchor of the United States of America is that we have been, and by the grace of God we always will be, a Christian nation." - On September 1, 2026, in a podcast interview, you said you are focused on "doing as much of God's work as possible," adding, "if that leads to the end times, OK." Taken together, these describe a consistent worldview: that your role as Vice President is to advance Christian theology, and that hastening a biblical apocalypse is an acceptable outcome of doing so. That worldview is entirely rejected by the foundational laws and documents you swore an oath to uphold: 1. ARTICLE VI, CLAUSE 3 explicitly bars any religious test for holding federal office or public trust under the United States. 2. THE FIRST AMENDMENT forbids the federal government from establishing, enforcing, or favoring any religious doctrine over another. 3. THE 1797 TREATY OF TRIPOLI, ratified unanimously by the U.S. Senate and signed by President John Adams, explicitly states: "The government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion." The American consciousness was never the product of one faith's moral monopoly. American governance draws from classical Roman republican law, Greek democratic philosophy, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy's Great Law of Peace, and the Enlightenment's secular defense of human reason and natural rights. Telling a national audience that American morality is "decidedly Christian" erases that history and the millions of non-Christian Americans, past and present, who built, defended, and shaped this country. That leaves Americans with only two logical conclusions about your public statements: OPTION 1: Despite your Yale Law degree and years in the Senate, you genuinely do not understand the Constitution or American history, and mistakenly believe the executive branch exists to advance Christian theology and usher in biblical prophecy. OPTION 2: You understand the secular architecture of the Constitution completely, but you are choosing to push your personal religion on your fellow citizens anyway, treating your oath of office as secondary to religious performance. You swore an oath to defend a secular Constitution, not to act as a self-appointed prophet bringing about the end times. Which is it, Mr. Vice President: do you not know the foundational law of the country you serve, or do you believe your personal faith should override it on behalf of all Americans? We deserve an answer.
