Support the People's Justice Guarantee to End Private Immigration Detention

The current system has created a business model that profits from human suffering, and the documented abuses demand immediate congressional action. A Senate investigation confirmed over 80 cases of medical neglect nationwide in immigration detention facilities. People have been denied insulin, left untreated for extended periods, and forced to compete for clean water. At the Farmville Detention Center in Virginia, detained individuals reported finding worms in their food. In Louisiana, a joint report by the ACLU and Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights documented sexual assault, physical abuse, and inedible meals across nine ICE facilities. These conditions are not isolated incidents but the predictable result of outsourcing incarceration to private corporations. Companies like CoreCivic and GEO Group receive billions of taxpayer dollars to operate detention centers where their business model depends on keeping as many people detained for as long as possible. This creates a profit motive that directly incentivizes prolonged detention and cost-cutting measures that compromise basic human dignity and safety. Public pressure has proven effective in forcing ICE to terminate contracts with abusive operators. That same pressure must now be directed toward comprehensive legislative reform. The People's Justice Guarantee provides a clear path forward by ending corporate profiteering in incarceration, investing in community-based alternatives to detention, and establishing that justice cannot be commodified or sold.
