An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Preserve the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. NO to Stauber's HR 978

239 so far! Help us get to 250 signers!

Vote NO on HR 978. This bill would have catastrophic effects on one of the most precious areas of America's wilderness, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. HR 978 doesn't just undo the 20 year ban on mining in the BWCA watershed and give Twin Metals their leases to undertake toxic copper mining. It also prohibits judicial review-- which is a dangerous measure, flouting the essential principles of the constitution's separation of powers and checks and balances. Our unspoiled natural reserves are a precious heritage, beyond price, and we all have an obligation to preserve them for future generations. If you allow them to be destroyed for short term private profit, imagine what your grandchildren and great children will say as they confront the ruin of an area of once stunning natural beauty and untouched, pristine wild splendor. Vote no on HR 978 and please support all legislation to preserve such precious wild places. Please reply in writing to assure me that you will not vote for any law that will desecrate BWCA or any law that would seek to evade the deeply enshrined constitutional principle of a judicial checks on any law.
