Demand Investigation into Trump DOJ’s Politically Motivated Prosecutions

I am writing to demand action regarding the politically motivated indictments emerging from the Department of Justice. Today, New York Attorney General Letitia James was indicted in Virginia on bank fraud charges after President Trump publicly called for her prosecution. This follows the September indictment of former FBI Director James Comey. Both are vocal Trump critics. According to NBC News, career prosecutors in the Eastern District of Virginia concluded there was insufficient evidence to charge James. When Acting U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert refused to proceed, Trump forced him out and replaced him with Lindsey Halligan, one of Trump’s personal attorneys with zero federal prosecutorial experience. She immediately secured the indictment. This isn’t prosecution. It’s retribution. Trump’s DOJ “weaponization czar” Ed Martin was photographed outside James’s home in August, publicly pressuring her to resign. Trump posted on Truth Social demanding “JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW” days before Comey’s indictment. No president should publicly demand prosecutions of political opponents, then fire prosecutors who won’t comply, then install personal lawyers to finish the job. Republicans and Democrats should be equally alarmed. If this precedent stands, every future administration will weaponize federal law enforcement against critics. I demand you call for an independent investigation into these prosecutions. Subpoena documents showing who directed these cases. Hold public hearings. Pass legislation protecting prosecutors from political interference. The integrity of our justice system depends on officials like you defending it when it comes under attack.
