You Failed to Hold DOGE Responsible

I am writing to demand accountability for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and for the elected officials who supported and defended it. DOGE was sold to the American people as a way to eliminate waste and save taxpayer money. Instead, the record raises serious questions about whether it created enormous costs while delivering far less in verified savings than promised. According to the Government Accountability Office, the federal government spent approximately $9.5 billion in 2025 on salary costs for employees placed on paid administrative leave. Approximately $6.7 billion of that was associated with the Deferred Resignation Program, through which roughly 140,000 federal employees left government service. Billions of taxpayer dollars spent paying people not to work is difficult to reconcile with the promise of making government more efficient. Congress must demand a full accounting of DOGE's actual costs and actual savings. That accounting must include administrative leave, retirement and separation costs, litigation, lost productivity, disruption of government services, and the costs of rehiring employees to perform work that still needs to be done. DOGE supporters cannot simply point to projected savings and declare victory. They supported these policies and repeatedly defended them. They now have a responsibility to answer for the results. If DOGE failed to produce the savings promised to taxpayers while creating unnecessary expenses and weakening essential government operations, the officials who supported it should be held accountable. They should have to explain their decisions publicly and defend their records to the people they represent. Congress also has a responsibility to investigate whether DOGE's reported savings were accurately calculated and independently verifiable. Taxpayers deserve facts—not political talking points. I am asking you to stop treating this as a partisan political issue and start treating it as a taxpayer accountability issue. Conduct a full investigation. Release the numbers. Identify the actual savings and the actual costs. Determine who made these decisions and whether those decisions benefited or harmed taxpayers. And if the evidence shows that elected officials knowingly supported policies that wasted taxpayer money or caused serious damage to essential government functions, voters should hold those officials accountable at the ballot box. Public office is a position of trust. Supporting a government program comes with responsibility for its consequences. No politician should be able to champion a program when it is politically convenient and then escape responsibility when the results are questioned. The American people were promised that DOGE would save money and make government work better. We deserve to know whether that promise was kept. I expect you to demand answers, conduct meaningful oversight, and hold accountable those responsible for the decisions and policies that produced these results. Taxpayers deserve better than slogans. They deserve transparency, evidence, and accountability.
