Regulate AI: Support the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act

I’m writing to all of my members of Congress to demand they support H.R. 10538 in the House and S. 5493 in the Senate, also known as the “Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act.” As Artificial Intelligence is becoming increasingly entrenched in the lives of most Americans, and as the technology continues to become more powerful at every turn, the necessity for regulation of AI and the companies that control it has become an absolute necessity. In regard to regulating AI, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently said, “we believe that the world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology and people having the agency.” Similarly, the bill that Anthropic recently wrote and hopes to get signed into law, states that the threshold for government intervention is imminently risk of more than $1 billion in damage, or death or serious injury to more than 50 people. This is, no matter what your personal opinions may be, nefarious and despicable in the best case scenario. You must put all of your political weight behind preventing anything even remotely close to these parameters or definition becoming legally binding. Regulations on AI need to be put in place as soon as possible. These regulations need to limit AI companies based on protecting human rights, the environment, and digital privacy.
