Safe Patient Care Act hearing needed

I am writing to you as a registered nurse and a concerned citizen of Michigan, to respectfully request a hearing on the Michigan Safe Patient Care Act. As frontline healthcare providers, nurses across the state are dedicated to giving our patients the best possible care. However, the current conditions make it challenging to provide the level of care that we know our patients deserve.
There is strong evidence showing that lower nurse-to-patient ratios lead to improved patient outcomes, fewer errors, and overall safer care environments. Unfortunately, many nurses are stretched too thin, responsible for more patients than is safe, which not only compromises the care we can provide but also endangers the health and well-being of those we serve.
The stress of being unable to provide adequate care has caused moral injury to many nurses, myself included. We entered this profession because we want to make a difference, but the current staffing levels often leave us feeling powerless and distressed when we are unable to give our patients the attention and care they need.
The Michigan Safe Patient Care Act proposes solutions to these issues by establishing safe nurse-to-patient ratios and improving working conditions. It is a crucial step toward addressing the crisis facing both nurses and patients in our state’s healthcare system.
We urge you to prioritize this matter and support a hearing on the Michigan Safe Patient Care Act. Your leadership and action can make a significant impact on the quality of care in Michigan and the well-being of both nurses and patients.
Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I look forward to your response and am hopeful that you will champion this cause for the health and safety of our communities.
