I hope that all members of Congress and their staff are safe today. Yesterday’s coup must be denounced for what it was: an insurrection attempt carried out by a group of terrorists, encouraged and goaded to action by the president of the United States. The president and the members of Congress who repeated his baseless lies about the election, allowing him to build up rancor and a determination to overthrow the government, must now be held accountable for their seditious and treasonous acts. I urge you to press for immediate action. The president must be removed from office, the Congresspeople must be ejected from Congress, and all must be tried for these crimes. The terrorists who attacked the Capitol and the statehouses around the country must be arrested as well. If swift action is not taken, this will happen again and again. Please stand up to protect the constitution you swore to uphold, and the government we all cherish. It is time to act.
