An open letter to the U.S. Congress

History will not judge you by partisan loyalty. It will judge you by morality.

Good morning, I am writing today to urge you to take action against the Trump administration and end ICE detainment, The Shield project, and military actions in Iraq. Pete Hegseth, along with other government officials, and (reportedly) high ranking members of the United States military, are referring to current events as the beginnings of The Holy War. This dangerous rhetoric is compounded by Christian nationalist extremism touting the signs of apocalypse and urging Americans to prepare. Neighbors are turning against neighbors. Countries against countries. Good vs evil. While I don’t personally subscribe to Christian mythology, many Americans do. In the Olivet Discourse, Christ warned of an age marked by deception, cruelty, and the abuse of power. He cautioned that many would come in the language of authority and righteousness while spreading fear, division, and violence. He warned of nations rising against nations, of the suffering of the vulnerable, and of leaders who would mislead the public while demanding loyalty above truth. These warnings were not merely theological—they were moral instructions about recognizing dangerous leadership. Today, many Americans are witnessing actions by the current administration that echo these warnings with disturbing clarity. Escalating international conflicts, aggressive militarization, attacks on democratic norms, and policies that target immigrants and marginalized communities are not the hallmarks of moral leadership. They are the very patterns of deception, intimidation, and authoritarian drift that the Olivet Discourse cautions believers—and all people of conscience—to recognize and resist. When government power is used to threaten other nations, to inflame fear at home, and to erode the constitutional protections that safeguard human dignity, Congress has not only a legal duty but a moral one to intervene. Silence in the face of such conduct is not neutrality—it is complicity. History will not judge this moment by speeches or partisan loyalty. It will judge it by whether those entrusted with the power of oversight chose courage over comfort. The Constitution was written precisely to prevent the consolidation of unchecked executive power and to ensure that no administration could act without restraint. The warning signs are visible. The erosion of norms is accelerating. The damage to democratic institutions grows each day that accountability is delayed. I urge every member of Congress, regardless of party, to act immediately. Use the powers granted to you—oversight, investigation, legislation, and if necessary, impeachment—to halt actions that endanger both our democracy and our standing in the world. Moments like this define nations. The question before you is simple: will Congress defend the republic, or stand by while it is weakened? The time to act is now.
