Defend Voting Rights Without Delay

Voting is a universal right, not to be restricted, redefined, purchased, or sold. The blatant assault upon the voting rights of Americans by Texas Republicans and other Republicans across the country cannot be permitted. While the goal of ensuring secure and free elections is laudable, the legislation proposed has no connection to that goal whatsoever. It is a naked attempt by the powerful and wealthy, particularly those like senator Cruz who knowingly and wilfully attempted to encourage the violent overthrow of verified election results, to restrict the ability of the people to make their will known. This cannot be tolerated. Representative government is the founding principle upon which America is built and any attempt to limit, restrict, distort, or maliciously erode confidence in the system by which the people choose their representatives is an attack on that foundation. If Republicans were genuinely interested in protecting the voice of the people they would be supporting the For The People Act which seeks to do precisely that. Instead, they seek to keep private money in our elections, keep their gerrymandered districts, limit the people's access to vote through draconian legislation and malicious targeted closure of polling stations, and reinforce a demonstrably false narrative of electoral fraud. Rather than supporting a strengthening of the people's voice in elections, Republican legislation would criminalize encouraging people to vote and effect a poll tax in all but name requiring voters provide ID's which must be purchased and require a physical address to obtain. For those of you who are Republicans, I beg you to show your loyalty to America stronger than your loyalty to party or profit. Denounce the lies, forego support for your party's reprehensible voter suppression, and back the For The People Act immediately. For those of you who are not Republican, you know what must be done. The voting rights of Americans must be protected from all threats foreign and domestic now. There can be no delay or compromise. The For The People Act must become law by the most expedient means available. Matters of process which are not law, like the filibuster, cannot stand in the way of your duty to protect the foundational rights of all Americans. Act swiftly and decisively to defend the will of the people, and of you must do it without bipartisan support then that's how it must be. The will of the people could not be defeated by the British empire in the 1700's, nor by treasonous confederates in the 1800's, and it will not be defeated by partisan politics today. Do what you were elected to do. Represent us.
