Protect Our Courts, Stop the Political Firing of Immigration Judges

President Trump has fired 16 more immigration judges this July, even after Congress allocated over $3 billion to hire additional judges to reduce the backlog. This move comes as the administration ramps up mass deportation efforts, leaving nearly 4 million cases in limbo. Matt Biggs, president of the judges’ union, put it clearly: “You can’t enforce immigration laws when you fire the enforcers.” Without experienced judges to hear cases, due process collapses, and the rule of law is replaced with chaos.
These firings are not about efficiency. They are about political control. Legal scholars like David Hausman warn that replacing independent judges with ideological loyalists undermines the integrity of the courts and public trust in justice. Immigrants are left without fair hearings, and violent criminals become harder to distinguish from families fleeing persecution. This is not a system rooted in justice. It is one manipulated by political fearmongering.
Congress must act immediately. Halt these unjustified firings, ensure immigration court appointments are based on qualifications and performance, and restore due process to a system under attack. If our government cannot protect the independence of its judges, then it cannot claim to uphold the law. Stand up for our Constitution and take action now.
