Rescind VA policy allowing treatment refusal based on beliefs

I am writing to urge immediate reform of the Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare system in response to the deeply concerning new policy that allows VA doctors to refuse treatment to veterans based on their personal beliefs and characteristics. This unethical policy disenfranchises vulnerable groups like unmarried veterans, LGBTQ+ veterans and those with differing political views. It undermines the fundamental mission of the VA to provide equitable care to all who have served, eroding public trust and putting lives at risk. The VA is the nation's largest integrated healthcare provider, serving over 9 million veterans annually. Allowing discrimination against patients based on doctors' personal biases is a direct violation of medical ethics and a severe dereliction of duty by the agency tasked with caring for our nation's heroes. This was implemented without oversight or input from medical staff themselves, further compounding the offense. It is extremely disturbing that this administration would push an ideological agenda at the expense of quality healthcare access for veterans. Those who have sacrificed for our country deserve care without judgment or prejudice based on who they are or what they believe. I implore you to take immediate action to rescind this regressive policy and establish clear protections against discrimination in VA facilities. Veterans' lives depend on receiving the highest standard of care, not having their treatment denied due to doctors' personal beliefs. This systemic abuse must end now.
