An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Protect due process for all persons in the USA!

33 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

I write today to ask you to take all possible steps to safeguard the right of due process for *all* people in the United States regardless of immigration or citizenship status. No matter how one feels about the rights of non-citizens in general, denying due process puts *everyone* at risk. The logic is simple and terrifying. If the government can deny due process to non-citizens, what is to stop it from simply declaring someone’s citizenship invalid and detaining or deporting them immediately? Without the right to due process, how could someone in that situation even prove that their citizenship is valid? Due process is the bedrock on which the rule of law rests. Without due process for all people in the United States, we may as well be living in a dictatorship. Please do whatever is necessary to prevent this.
