An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Support children born of government sponsored IVF until they are 18

I am writing to express concern over the recent government push to make IVF free while neglecting the basic needs of children born through this process. If the government is willing to subsidize the cost of IVF (around $50,000-$60,000), it should also support the child’s nutrition and medical care. The lifetime cost of feeding a child through SNAP is roughly $40,000, and Medicaid costs about $90,000 over 18 years. By failing to provide full support for children born through government-subsidized IVF, the burden is unfairly placed on taxpayers, and it contradicts the budget you’ve just signed. Encouraging women to give birth without providing for the child’s care until adulthood is morally wrong and financially irresponsible. If we are going to encourage childbearing through IVF, the government must ensure these children are supported, not left to burden taxpayers later. I urge you to align policy with responsibility and equity for all families.
