THIS IS TEXAS

Although I have given up,writing to my elected official in DC, I wanted to keep you apprised of your suffering state regardless. This letter to Governor Abbott was sent today. Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas. Another day in Siberian Texas. Luckily my household has heat, water, and lights. We are blessed when millions are not. But still not much to do except watch our state leaders flounder. While the front lines of linemen, city workers, state maintenance crews are risking their lives to try to keep a semblance of civilization for Texans. Our state. Center of energy production is freezing in the dark. So I send these words out to you. Rick Perry: “Texans would be without electricity for longer than three days to keep the federal government out of their business,” he said. “Those watching on the left may see the situation in Texas as an opportunity to expand their top-down, radical proposals. Two phrases come to mind: don’t mess with Texas, and don’t let a crisis go to waste.” Talk about not letting a good crisis go to waste. Let’s express our rugged individualism by freezing in the dark. And enjoy sticking it to the man while we do. It’s this sort of hollow, empty, false bravado that contributed to our current crisis. Do you suppose Mr. Perry is sitting in a dark, cold, waterless house? He might not be nearly as cavalier with others lives if he could experience what a lot of us are actually experiencing. Then we have: “At Abbott’s request, President Biden has declared that Texas is in a state of emergency, freeing up federal money and supplies for the state. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has sent 60 generators to state hospitals, water plants, and other critical facilities, along with blankets, food, and bottled water. It is also delivering diesel fuel for backup power.” Brag on one hand. Beg with the other. The hypocrisy is astounding. And unmistakeable. And totally predictable. Ready to secede yet?
