An open letter to the U.S. Congress

TRUMP’S MISSION IS FAR FROM ACCOMPLISHED

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

No one needed a crystal ball to know how and why the decision to bomb Iran was made. Likewise how the aftermath would be handled. Have we ever had a more easy to read president? Predictable in his actions and responses? Reporting has now confirmed what a lot of us assumed to be true. Trump wanted in on the optics of what seemed to be Israel’s successful strikes against Iran. Reporting has also confirmed there was no new intelligence to suggest Iran was on the brink of producing nuclear weapons. Reporting has confirmed that Trump warned Netanyahu against striking Iran but changed his mind after seeing how Israel’s military action was “playing” on television. “The president was closely monitoring Fox News, which was airing wall-to-wall praise of Israel’s military operation and featuring guests urging Mr. Trump to get more involved.” He began to hint he had been part of the operation. Military advisors began to draw up plans for a strike. Reporting has confirmed that by June 17—three days after the sad parade and millions of unhappy Americans in the streets—Trump decided to bomb Iran. So he started ginning up his social media posts towards that end. He did the deed. Unencumbered by anything or anyone. He wanted it done. And it was. With no justification. No notification of ‘plans’ to anyone except loyalists. He decided to be a one-man war machine. He bombed Iran in America’s name. Then he crowed. Mission accomplished. Targets obliterated. One-time deal done and done. Everybody will go home now. The world will be happy. And he is the hero of it all. Then he announced that both sides had agreed to a ceasefire, about which there are no known details. And just as quickly he announced that both sides had violated the ceasefire. He helped set the fire and now he walks away casting blame for its acceleration on others. But this, this is the reality he leaves us with…a senior military officer nominated by President Donald Trump to lead all U.S. military operations in the Middle East told lawmakers Tuesday that Iran still possesses “significant tactical capability” to strike US troops in the region, including ballistic missiles like the ones used in an attack on a major US military base in Qatar on Monday. So while he rants against others, telling us that Iran’s response to our bombing of their country will be weak and no worries, he’s taken care of things, and keeps telling us he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for it all, the GOP Congress seems unable to react to any of it. Except to say job well done. You know it’s not. And your complicity is fueling the fire to come.
