Bipartisan Experts Say Repeal Tariffs Before Recession Hits

I’m urging you to repeal Trump’s tariffs immediately. These sweeping policies are already driving up prices, disrupting supply chains, and hurting American workers and businesses. Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman called the tariffs “economically destructive” and warned that “we’re repeating the mistakes of the 1930s” (New York Times, Apr. 5, 2025). Even former Trump economic adviser Larry Kudlow has called the new tariffs “an inflation bomb” (Fox Business, Apr. 5, 2025). There’s bipartisan agreement among economists that these tariffs will slow growth and disproportionately hurt low- and middle-income families. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and more than 1,000 economists have spoken out against them, warning they will backfire. According to CNBC, Trump’s formula for the new tariff rates is “wildly inflated,” and could result in consumers paying billions more each year (CNBC, Apr. 5, 2025). The bottom line is this: tariffs are a tax on the American people. We need policy that strengthens our economy, not reckless decisions that risk another recession. Repeal the tariffs now.
