Immigrants Keep America Running—Protect Their Rights Today

Our immigration system should reflect the values we claim to uphold: freedom, fairness, and human dignity. Yet current enforcement tactics often fail to meet even the bare minimum of those ideals. Detaining families, separating children, and using surveillance and raids in communities destabilizes lives and weakens trust in government. Most undocumented immigrants have no criminal record and contribute billions in taxes each year. They work in agriculture, construction, caregiving, and service jobs that keep our economy afloat. We are a nation of laws, but also a nation built by immigrants. Enforcement should focus on real threats, not on tearing apart families or criminalizing desperation. Policies based on fear only feed more fear. What we need is clarity, fairness, and reform grounded in fact, not rhetoric. This is not about being soft on the border, it’s about being smart, moral, and honest with ourselves and with each other. Congress must act now to stop abusive enforcement and restore humanity to immigration policy.
