Stand Against Visa Holder Deportations That Harm U.S. Progress

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent deportations of international students and visa holders. These actions directly threaten the substantial economic and cultural contributions these individuals make to our nation. In the 2023–2024 academic year alone, over 1.1 million international students contributed $43.8 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 378,000 jobs. Notably, Texas ranks among the top states benefiting from this economic activity. For every three international students, one U.S. job is created or supported, highlighting their critical role in sustaining local economies and higher education institutions.
Beyond their economic impact, international students enrich the intellectual and cultural fabric of our campuses. Approximately 56% of these students pursue degrees in STEM fields, driving innovation and technological advancements that benefit all Americans. Their presence fosters cross-cultural understanding and prepares domestic students for global careers. By targeting these individuals, we risk losing invaluable talent and diminishing our global competitiveness. I urge you to oppose policies that undermine our nation’s commitment to education and innovation.
