Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
A gentle reminder that mass shootings are not the price of freedom. The individual freedom to own a firearm needs to stop being used as a political weapon, no pun intended. American citizens overwhelmingly want sensible gun laws. So either give us that or just start issuing a gun with every birth certificate and we can duke it out amongst ourselves. Which is where we seem to be going.
This kind of politics, using a deadly serious issue to keep your base fired up, is a dying strategy. No one is going to take guns away. That’s not possible, practical, or an achievable reality. You know that. We know that. So please try and move the country towards a reasonable solution so we can stop viewing mass shootings as just another form of evening news entertainment.
We’ve seen it all before. Endlessly. If this is going to be America, no wonder a large part of the world considers us barbarians.
And before you get het up and call me a commie liberal, I grew up in a gun culture. We had guns in every room, and didn’t think a thing of it. But we also lived in the country, remote, where we needed them for actual survival. So you can’t say anything to me on that front. And I have to problem with that world. But I do have a problem with using people’s fears to destroy our country.
