Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
In case you think we’re all suffering the same amnesia as y’all, I need to remind you…we the people see you.
I’m referring to current attempts to lambast the Biden administration for creating the situation, contributing to Putin’s efforts, and/or not doing enough to help Ukraine.
Rich hypocrisy indeed.
I read that U.S. has committed more than $1 billion in total security assistance to Ukraine in the past year alone. That includes an additional $350 million defense aid package for Ukraine approved by Biden last week.
What did Mr.Trump contribute?While president he slow-walked $250 million in committed, promised military aid to Ukraine, aid they desperately needed to fight pro-Russia factions. All while arranging a quid pro quo scheme to strong-arm President Zelensky into manufacturing dirt on Biden and his family before the 2020 election.
And got impeached. Which your party was shocked by.
Now, in numerous nausea-inducing displays, we get to see some in the GOP rewrite their own participation in Mr. Trump’s dereliction.
Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), “The challenge that we have is, it’s the actions that we could have done before from this administration to make sure today wasn’t happening,” McCarthy said Tuesday on Fox & Friends. “We could have supplied the weapons to Ukraine. They’re not asking for American troops, they’re just asking for the ability to fight.”
McCarthy added that Ukraine has been “outgunned” by Russia and said that “we could have deterred this from ever happening.”
And there are others just being as disingenuous, to use a nice word.
What exactly do you guys think needs to be done at this point that hasn’t been done? Should NATO have been dissolved as Mr. Trump hoped? Should Ukraine have bit the bullet and lied to help Mr. Trump beat Joe Biden? Participated in a blackmail scheme with American taxpayer dollars in order to get the promised military aid that was being withheld? Or continue to stroke Putin’s ego in the hopes he would be a good boy?
That’s the problem with the GOP these days. You’re really good at the rewriting of history, whining about the other side, but terrible at solutions.
There’s a price you’re paying for your wait and see, hedging bets, seeing which way the wind is blowing form of governance.
It’s called too scared to lead.
