Stop attacking citizenship

The Trump administration's directive to strip naturalized Americans of their citizenship for criminal offenses is deeply concerning and undermines the principles of equal justice and due process. Denaturalization proceedings through civil litigation deny individuals critical legal protections, including the right to an attorney and a higher burden of proof for the government. This creates a disturbing second-class status for naturalized citizens. Revoking citizenship should be an absolute last resort, reserved only for the most egregious violations related to obtaining citizenship fraudulently. Subjecting naturalized Americans to denaturalization for common criminal convictions is an unjustified overreach that puts millions at risk of being stripped of their rights and having their lives uprooted. I urge you to challenge this unjust policy and uphold the ideals of equal protection and fairness that are fundamental to American democracy. Naturalised citizens have followed the legal path to citizenship and should not face differential treatment or revocation of that status except in only the gravest of circumstances directly relating to the naturalization process itself. Protecting the sanctity of citizenship must be a priority.
