I am writing to you as a concerned citizen from Maryland to express my strong support for two crucial pieces of legislation: the Judiciary Act (S. 1616 / HR 3422) and the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act (S. 359 / HR 926). These bills represent vital steps towards restoring public confidence in the integrity and functionality of our nation's highest judicial body.
The Judiciary Act aims to amend Title 28 of the United States Code to allow for 12 associate justices of the Supreme Court. This change is necessary to address the growing complexities and demands faced by the Court in our rapidly evolving legal landscape. By increasing the number of justices, the Act will help ensure a more balanced and representative judicial system, reflective of our diverse nation.
Furthermore, the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act addresses a critical need for enhanced ethical standards and transparency within the Supreme Court. This legislation will establish necessary guidelines for ethical conduct, recusal from cases where conflicts of interest may arise, and increased transparency in the Court's proceedings. Such measures are essential to uphold the principle of impartial justice and to strengthen public trust in the Court's decisions.
As your constituent, I urge you to support and advocate for the passage of these bills. Our democracy relies on a judicial system that is not only fair and impartial but also perceived as such by the public. The Judiciary Act and the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act are key to achieving this goal.
Thank you for considering my views on this important matter. I look forward to your support and action on these bills.
