For 75 years, the UN has worked to curb humanity’s worst impulses and when all else fails, protect the most vulnerable.
Today, however, our country and planet face unprecedented challenges: the climate crisis, mass inequality, growing instability, unpredictable health threats.
These are complex challenges that no single nation can solve on its own.
And yet, just when we need collective action more than ever, support for global cooperation is at risk.
Here in the United States, this administration has repeatedly pushed to slash our financial commitments to the UN, withdraw from UN agencies, and retreat from the world stage.
While it may sound good on paper to some, taking a step back from our role at the UN is a profound mistake that threatens to make the U.S. less safe, less prosperous, and emboldens adversaries that are already working to take advantage of our diminished global presence.
It also goes against the will of more than 70 percent of Americans – Republicans, Democrats, and Independents – who understand the value of cooperation and agree that we should pay our UN dues on time and in full.
As my Member of Congress, I hope you will stand with me and push back on this growing threat, fight to fully fund our UN dues, and ensure strong U.S. leadership continues at the UN.
With your voice, I know our country will honor the progress we’ve made over the last 75 years and partner with the UN to tackle the complicated challenges ahead.
