No ICE/CBP Funding Without Law Enforcement Standards & The Blevins Act

As your constituent, I am writing to demand that you oppose any appropriations or funding for ICE or CBP unless the legislation includes two non-negotiable oversight provisions:
1. Uniform Policing Standards: Requiring ICE and CBP to adhere to the same professional rules of conduct, use-of-force restrictions, and body-camera mandates that apply to state and local police departments. Police in our state use these sensible standards to ensure the safety of all, so why wouldn't we require the same guardrails for any federal officers operating within our state?
2. The Blevins Act: Immediate passage and implementation of the Blevins Act to ensure federal law enforcement transparency and that we have recourse when federal agencies step beyond their constitutional boundaries. The law should protect us from federal agents who've stepped outside of our nation's laws.
The people of our state value the rule of law and fiscal responsibility. It is a massive overreach—and a liability to taxpayers—to fund federal agencies that operate with less accountability than our own local sheriffs and police chiefs. We cannot continue to write blank checks to agencies like ICE and CBP while they operate under a separate, more lenient set of rules. I expect you to use the power of the purse to ensure these federal agents are held to the same high standards we demand of every other person carrying a badge in our state.
On top of that, our communities deserve safety, but that safety is compromised when federal agencies operate with impunity. The lack of standardized rules for ICE and CBP is a direct threat to civil liberties and equitable justice. I urge you to stand firm against any DHS funding bill for ICE/CBP that does not codify the protections found in the Blevins Act and mandate standard policing rules for all federal agents. We need champions who will prioritize human rights over unrestricted agency funding.
The era of special rules for federal law enforcement must end. I look forward to seeing you take a stand on this during the upcoming budget negotiations.
