Monkey Pox Vaccine

Many states have begun giving monkey pox vaccines to those in high risk populations. Today, I discovered that Ohio is only giving the monkey pox vaccine to individuals who have been knowingly exposed to monkey pox. I do not understand this at all. Doesn’t this defeat the purpose of a vaccine? Why do we have a known preventative, yet our state refuses to help prevent? We are still dealing with the Covid pandemic; we do not need another medical crisis on our hands - especially when vaccines and prevention are available! There are plenty of monkey pox vaccines nationwide and other states have noticed the need to offer the vaccine. In comparison, it is hard to see this as anything other than Ohio trying to punish a marginalized population. I ask that you review our policies surrounding the monkey pox vaccine and make it available to all interested parties.
