Protect Students' Rights: Oppose Restrictive Library Measures in Georgia

The proposed Georgia Senate Bills 154 and 365, which aim to control school libraries and potentially criminalize librarians, raise serious concerns. These bills, mandating parental notification for every book a child checks out and criminalizing the distribution of material deemed obscene by librarians, are perceived by many as infringing on students' First Amendment rights. Libraries should remain spaces for free exploration and learning, and the freedom of information must be safeguarded. Instead of punitive measures, we should encourage open dialogue and understanding. Therefore, it is requested that these bills be reconsidered and voted against, to maintain the integrity of our educational institutions and protect the rights of our students.
