We need accountability.

I understand that an official may be impeached even after they have left office. If found guilty by 2/3 of the Senate they obviously cannot be removed from their position. But upon a simple majority vote the official could be prevented from holding any federal office. I think that a formal request for a criminal investigation should be referred to the FBI and DOJ over Donald Trump’s phone call to Georgia officials to attempt to overturn the election results. I think this should also be done at the State level. I also think that investigations should be started in the cases of the House and Senate members who lodge official objections to accepting the Electoral College results. They are in violation of their oath of office by not upholding and defending the Constitution. Mr. Trump’s claims have no basis in facts, the votes have been double or triple checked and any reasonable requests have been investigated. Almost 60 cases have be denied in Federal and State courts for lack of evidence. Federal and State election officials, and the DOJ, have found no basis for the wild claims. They are simply Trump’s attempts to stage a coup by overturning legally processed votes. While the investigations proceed at Federal and State levels, the government can concentrate on Covid-19 relief, vaccine distribution and administration, immigration and other more pressing issues. After the immediately pressing issues have been addressed, I think proceedings should start to unseat the Reps and Senators who were trying to undermine the Constitution. I also think that Mr. Trump should be impeached and tried again, this time with evidence of actual crimes he has committed, and he should be prevented from holding any federal office. We have seen over the past four years that if officials are not held accountable for their actions, they will try to get away with whatever crimes they can. I also think it is necessary to hold to account those who enable the perpetrators as an example to discourage future such attempts. Thank you for your attention.
