I oppose H.R. 5, the Parents Bill of Rights Act. A balanced approach respecting parents' rights while preserving schools' autonomy to develop curricula and policies based on educational best practices would be more constructive. Excessive government mandates risk politicizing education and compromising its quality. Before enacting sweeping new requirements, we should carefully consider unintended consequences that could ultimately dis-empower students. I urge thoughtful revisions maintaining proper boundaries between parental input and deference to professional educators.
